Water Lines
My most recent venture has been to boat yards. It came about really unexpectedly. I spent a fog enshrouded morning at the beach (yes we photographers do get up before dawn!), with limited visibility and nothing much to capture, so walked next door to the boat yard. Boat yards are a treasure of texture, color, variety, and creative juxtaposition. All of this exhibit, are pictures of the waterline of dry docked boats. The waterlines all create an abstract color palette. Most people looking at them think they are paintings. I have a series of the waterline that I call “Boatscapes”, because they all look like landscapes. Check out the feature gallery on the homepage. It’s really exciting to see what shows up in the details of a shot. It’s even more exciting to see someone’s expression when they realize it “isn’t what it looks like!” The fun is in sharing what you did and seeing someone enjoying it or spending a few minutes wondering what it would be like to have taken the same shot.
